Why should I choose CAYB?
Here at Conroe Area Youth Baseball, we like to instill a love for baseball in a fun and safe environment. We welcome all players whether they have never picked up a baseball or not. Our program is about development of the skills needed to play ball.
What are the age divisions at CAYB?
Division age groups are determined by the players age AS OF April 30th of the Spring Season
Example : If your player is 6 years old but will be 7 on or before April 30th of the Spring Season you are registering for then your player will be in the (8U) 7/8 year old Division
4U - Ages 3/4, This division division is our T-Ball division. The goal in this age group is to introduce the beginning baseball player to the rules of the game, basic fielding and hitting. Bases are set at 50ft and the pitching rubber is set at 35ft.
6U - Ages 5/6, This division is our hybrid Coach Pitch/T-Ball division. The goal in this age group is to introduce the beginning baseball player to the rules of the game, basic fielding and hitting. Bases are set at 50ft and the pitching rubber is set at 35ft. Each player will receive three pitches from the coach, and if the player misses all three of the pitches, he/she will then get two chances to hit from the tee.
8U - Ages 7/8, This division is our Coach Pitch division. Players will be coached on more advanced hitting and fielding techniques. Bases are set at 60ft and the pitching rubber is set at 38ft.
10U - Ages 9/10, This division is our first Kid Pitch division. Players are introduced to a more complete baseball experience. This includes lead-offs, stealing, player pitching, pick-offs and more. Bases are set at 60ft and the pitching rubber is set at 46ft.
12U - Ages 11/12, This division takes the developing young players into the full game of baseball, with no restrictions on base stealing or runs allowed. Bases are set at 70ft and the pitching rubber is set at 48ft.
14U - Ages 13/14, This division is our oldest age group and is designed to prepare our players to make the jump into High School. Bases are set at 80 ft and the pitching rubber is set at 54 ft.

What is included in the registration fee?
There are a number of things that are included as part of our registration fee:
Fees help pay for our umpires. We have one (1) umpire in 6u and two (2) in 8u - 14u.
It costs to keep the fields in shape. Things like pro mix infield dirt, rapid dry field conditioner, field chalk, paint, turf upkeep, batting cages upkeep, etc are all part of this.
We reward division winning teams at the end of the season with rings and/or trophies for all 4u players. City tournament winning teams are awarded with rings as well.
Scoreboards are incredibly expensive to maintain and require annual maintenance.
We supply catcher’s gear for the teams, practice balls for first time coaches, and game balls. Sometimes the catcher is not returned at the end of the season or it is damaged and needs to be replaced.
Scorebooks are supplied each season.
We pay for All Star Tournament hats and fees for two (2) tournaments.
Also included are trash runs, concession stand updates, restroom cleaning. In the past each team was responsible for these (hence a lower fee). We have outsourced this so that parents are not having to run trash or run the concessions during the season.
For Opening Day, we no longer require teams to bring sodas, baked goods, raffle baskets, etc.
CAYB is also responsible for the typical utility bills required to run the facility: lights, water, trash, etc.
Are there any other additional costs?
Not that this is a cost, but each season CAYB hold their raffle fundraiser. Every player is required to sell two (2) raffle ticket booklets. There are incentives to sell more, of course!
Why do we have to pay for registration and sell raffle tickets?
Registration fees helps CAYB cover the costs associated with running the fall and spring seasons. Additional fundraising, such as raffle tickets, helps offset maintenance costs within the fences, the fields, the bathrooms, the concession stands, the cages and the boardroom, which are year round costs to keep the facility in good order, and the responsibility of the CAYB Board of Directors.
Does my child have to have experience to play at CAYB?
Absolutely not! We like to believe that CAYB provides a fun and safe environment for any child to learn the fundamentals of baseball!
When will practices be held?
Practices will be held on Monday through Friday before we begin playing games. Each team will have a night assigned to them and provided an hour on the field, then an hour in the cages. Example: the 6u Cubs will have field practice from 6:00 - 7:15 then have cages from 7:15 - 8:30. Once games begin for the season, no fields are available for practices.
When will games be held?
Most games will be held Monday through Friday with some games in a few divisions being held on Saturday. Any games needing to be made up due to weather will take place on Wednesdays and possibly Saturdays.
Where are the practices and games held?
All practices and games will be held at Gene Campbell Sports Complex. If your player is nominated and makes the All Star team, they will play one tournament at CAYB and 2 away tournaments.
What do I need to get for my player?
The only thing you need to provide for your player will be pants (color per coach), cleats (no metal cleats), a batting helmet and a glove. Remember, if you are playing in the fall, socks and belts are NOT provided. If your player is a catcher, you may want your own equipment, but CAYB will provide a set for each team.
Does CAYB provide any equipment?
Absolutely! CAYB will always provide game balls and a set of catcher’s gear. Anything above and beyond that, will be up to each team.
Do the kids get awards/trophies at the end of the season?
For the Spring and Fall seasons, we hold a city tournament the last week of our season. There will be awards (rings, medals, or trophies) for our first and second place teams. These events are weather permitting.
Does CAYB have All-Star teams?
Yes we do! In the spring season, coaches will nominate players to try out for All Stars. We typically have one (1) team per division (excluding 4u). All Star teams typically participate in two (2) All Star tournaments; however more tournaments can be played at coach’s discretion. There are no All Stars in the fall.
What else can I expect from CAYB?
Funny you ask! We are all about giving back to our CAYB families! Last year, we hosted a CAYB family night with water slides and an outdoor movie at the plate! We also host an annual Trunk or Treat which has become a tradition our community looks forward to! Of course we do not want to leave the adults out, so we have held “adult” softball tournaments at the end of both the spring season and this fall. Our Committee of Special Events volunteers, along with our Board Members are always busy planning events for upcoming year, as well as finding other ways to bring our CAYB family together for a little fun!
